Kofi Annan was a Ghanaian diplomat who served as the 7th Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006. He and the UN were co-recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001. Annan was known for his efforts in reforming the UN and combating HIV/AIDS.
